Please join the Christian Education Committee for a continental breakfast on Rally Day, Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 9:45am. Everyone is invited to come and eat from 9:45-10:15am and then preview a Sunday School Class from 10:15-10:45am. See the descriptions of the Sunday School classes below.
Parlor Adult Sunday School Class: Learn more about the Parables of Jesus who is the master of the parable! Deceptively simple, these timeless stories were used by Jesus to bring new life to old ways. This Kerygma class will discover God's truth for today's dilemmas.
Library Adult Sunday School Class: Discover the Magna Carta of the Christian faith! This study details why the Book of Romans lit the fire in Martin Luther's heart that started the Protestant Reformation. It was also the text that caused John Wesley's heart to be "strangely warmed" and Luther calls it "the very purest Gospel," "daily bread for the soul...the more it is dealt with the more precious it becomes and the better it tastes."
If you are in High School or Middle School, please plan to join us in the youth room where we will continue to look at subjects ranging from forgiveness and love to abiding in Christ.
The Children's Classes will be using Spark Lectionary, which follows the stories in the Revised Common Lectionary. These lessons connect Sunday School to readings from worship.
What's New in the Church Library? A computer! And a work in progress-that is what's happening in the church library. During the summer, Will Spires, with help from his sister Jenni, began to enter data on library books in a laptop computer which will be kept in the library. When the project is complete, individuals looking for a specific title, subject or author will be able to search the collection by computer. This project, undertaken by the CE committee, will take some time to complete but will make the library more accessible. Special thanks to Nancy McElroy for contributing the computer, to Joe Bonner for his technical assistance, to Teresa Spires for continuing Will's work, and to Margaret Moeller for her countless hours in putting info in the card file.
